Since 2001...Finally, the foundation of the Museum of French Emigration to Canada has been accompanied by a specific scientific approach to improve our basic knowledge about the French emigrants who settled in the St Lawrence Valley in the 17th and 18th centuries. The genealogical research with which the commune of Tourouvre has been associated for several decades continues. Two scientific programs specifically concern this subject: * The research program in historical demography (PRDH) by the University of Montreal * The research program on French emigration to Nouvelle-France (PRÉFEN) by the University of Caen Basse-Normandie. The latter was launched by the Government of Canada in September 2001, as part of the project of the Museum of French Emigration to Canada. It consists of original research work into the French archives, on the basis of a methodological expertise developed in Canada thirty years or so ago, notably by the PRDH. A substantial research grant was thus granted for the period 2001 - 2006 to the patron of this work, the Quantitative History Research Centre at the University of Caen Basse-Normandie.
