Effects of high blood sugar levels and their ranges

Normal values

The blood glucose values will vary depending on the time of day. More specifically, these values are variable as they are susceptible to meals and therefore blood sugar should be measured also considering the hours of fasting or in any case the time elapsed since the last meal. The normal values of fasting plasma glucose should be between 70 and 99 mg / dl. Conversely, if measured between meals, blood sugar levels are altered if between 100 and 125 mg / dl. Values that fall under diabetes are greater than 126 mg / dl  Leververvetting.

The glucose can also be measured at 2 hours away from meals. These values can be divided as follows: normal values – less than 140 milligrams per deciliter

impaired blood sugar – one forty to two hundred milligrams per deciliter

diabetes – greater than two hundred milligrams per deciliter

High blood sugar: causes of hyperglycaemia is a condition that can lead to several complications for the organism, first of all the correlation that exists between high blood sugar and development of tumors . In fact, according to recent studies, high blood glucose levels cause cancer in: pancreas, liver, colon, esophagus.

This relationship may be due to the cell growth action of insulin. In addition to this complication still under study, there are correlations between hyperglycemia and the following conditions: low HDL cholesterol,  risks of type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes

The following situations are posed due to high blood sugar :

ingestion of carbohydrates, the action of hormones capable of determining the splitting of hepatic or muscle glycogen with subsequent introduction of glucose into the circulation. The action of hormones capable of inducing a greater formation of glucose starting from proteins, the action of hormones capable of reducing the use of glucose by tissues (such as somatotropic hormone )

The gestational diabetes can interfere with the development of the fetus and cause the mother:

nephropathy, retinopathy, cardiovascular diseases, neurological problems, hypertension.

Causes of changes in blood sugar

The blood sugar is regulated by neurohormonal and metabolic factors. A metabolic or neurohormonal alteration can cause changes in blood glucose values.

The causes of the increase in blood glucose values are:

diabetes mellitus – an indicator of this type of diabetes is in fact chronic hyperglycemia

diabetes – episodes of hyperglycemia may indicate developing diabetes.
